New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders - Preseason Gamethread #5

The Time: 7:00 PM EST

The Broadcast: Internet Stream Only -; Devils Official Website

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (1-3-0) vs. the New York Islanders (1-2-0)

The Previews: Matt Evans' preview from this morning is right here. For the other side of tonight's game, please check out Lighthouse Hockey.

Gameday Info: Tom Gulitti reported tonight's lineup this morning at Fire & Ice and it's, well, a "B" squad to say the least. Johan Hedberg, Mattias Tedenby, and David Clarkson are the only "locks" for making the roster. This is a last chance for some of these guys to sway the coaches' opinion. The most notable are Steve Bernier and Anton Stralman, who both played last night. Short of having an amazing night, I don't anticipate that they'll get a contract. A good chunk of the roster, though, (e.g. Alexander Urbom, Jay Leach, the minor league forwards) are just getting to play in a game in preseason and nothing more. Beyond possibly the first line of Mattias Tedenby, Adam Henrique, and David Clarkson; I wouldn't expect a whole lot of offense out of this group. I also wouldn't expect a whole lot of "D" since the most experienced defender among the six playing tonight is Stralman. In short: be glad this game doesn't count.

As far as Saturday's preseason finale goes, expect to see Anton Volchenkov and Bryce Salvador according to this post from Gulitti. Dainius Zubrus might play as well, but that's up in the air.

Gulitti also posted the Islanders' roster for tonight's game. It's a little stronger on paper - particularly on defense, which will be led by captain Mark Streit. As Dominik at Lighthouse Hockey put it, it's not a "B" squad but it's also not an "A" squad. Among the youngsters, keep an eye out on Nino Niederreiter. He's one of the many young Islanders with good potential. I don't know whether he's got a real shot at making the team, but he has something to play for.

Please use the comments to discuss the game before, during, and a little after the game itself. I'll try to keep up via mobile from my seat in Section 1. As usual, keep the rules in mind when you do comment. Basically: keep it clean, keep it relevant, and keep it legal (read: no illegal streams - that shouldn't be an issue tonight since the Devils own site has one going). Above all, Go Devils!
