The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (1-0-0) vs. the New York Rangers (0-0-1).
The Previews: My preview from way earlier this morning is right here. For the other side, Joe Fortunato has this post at Blueshirt Banter.
The AHL Devils-Rangers (Devils-Whale?) Exhibition Game: It was at the Rock this afternoon and it was closed to the public. According to Tom Gulitti, the A-Devils lost 5-4 in overtime.
Gameday Info: Tom Gulitti has reported the Devils lineup earlier today at Fire & Ice. Here it is:
Forwards: Ilya Kovalchuk-Jacob Josefson-Nick Palmieri, Mattias Tedenby-Adam Henrique-Petr Sykora; Rod Pelley-David Steckel-Vladimir Zharkov; Eric Boulton-Tim Sestito-Brad Mills.
Defensemen: Anton Volchenkov-Andy Greene; Bryce Salvador-Adam Larsson; Matt Taormina-Mark Fayne.
Goaltenders: Martin Brodeur, Keith Kinkaid.
A good chunk of this lineup played on Wednesday night. The returners: Ilya Kovalchuk, Jacob Josefson, Nick Palmieri, Petr Sykora, Eric Boulton, Brad Mills, Anton Volchenkov, and Adam Larsson. This is certainly good news for Sykora, Boulton, Mills, and Larsson as they're fighting for spots on the team. Also, do note that Sykora is expected to line up at wing instead of at center like in Wednesday's game. As for the rest of the returners, well, I don't think many doubted their spot in the lineup. Keith Kinkaid technically counts, but with Martin Brodeur expected to play the whole game; he should be on the bench in case of emergency. Lastly, Andrew Gross reports at Ranger Rants that Martin Biron and Chad Johnson will split the game for NY.
Please use the comments to discuss the game before, during, and a little after the game itself. While the result ultimately means nothing, but please cheer on the team all the same. Keep the rules in mind when you do comment: keep it clean, keep it relevant, and keep it legal (read: no illegal streams - do not talk about them, do not request them and do not provide them here). Above all: Go Devils!
