New, comments

The Time: 7 PM EST

The Broadcast: TV only - MSG (Full preseason schedule here from Gulitti.)

The Place: The Times Union Center in Albany, NY.

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils at the New York Rangers

The Previews: My preview written last night and posted early morning is right here. For the opponent's point of view, please visit Blueshirt Banter.

Gameday Information: Tom Gulitti reported the Devils' lineup for tonight's game in this post at Fire & Ice. Gulitti's list may also spell out the lines and pairings if you count every three forwards as one line and every two defenseman as a pairing. I could be reading a little too much into it. Either way, the three NHL veterans in the team on a tryout - Petr Sykora, Steve Bernier, and Anton Stralman are - in the lineup. With Zach Parise, Ilya Kovalchuk, Henrik Tallinder, Patrik Elias, and Anton Volchenkov also in the lineup; Devils will be rolling with plenty of veterans. They will be young in goal and based on Peter DeBoer's comments, Keith Kinkaid will not only start but could play the whole game.

If you're interested in the Rangers' lines, beat reporter and Gulitti-colleague Andrew Gross has them here at his blog Ranger Rants. Expect them to be well-rested from their plane ride to Albany, as per this post at SBN-NHL.

Welcome to the first Gamethread of the 2011-12 campaign. Please use the comments to discuss tonight's game before and during the game. While the result ultimately means nothing, but please cheer on the team all the same. Keep the rules in mind when you do comment: keep it clean, keep it relevant, and keep it legal (read: no illegal streams). Above all: Go Devils!
