New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes - Gamethread #59

The Time: 7:00 PM EST

The Broadcast: TV - MSG(HD); Radio - 660 AM WFAN

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (24-30-4) at the Carolina Hurricanes (28-23-8)

The Previews: My preview from earlier today is right here. For the opposition's perspective, hockeymomof2 has this preview at Canes Country.

Gameday Info: Tom Gulitti reported earlier this afternoon that Johan Hedberg will get the start in net for New Jersey and that Jacob Josefson will play tonight in place of Adam Mair. I'm fine with the former, but not the latter. How does playing Josefson on a fourth line benefit him? How is it a good idea to move him one step closer to needlessly burning his ELC a season early? I suspect that this may be the precursor to a trade elsewhere in the lineup; but even then, I don't like the decision of activating Josefson.

For the Hurricanes, Chip Alexander reported that Cam Ward will be tending goal for the Canes tonight, making it his 19th consecutive start. Alexander also noted that the recently acquired Derek Joslin might play, but that will be a decision after pregame warmups.

Bryce Salvador Update: Gulitti has a detailed update about Bryce Salvador, who has been out since preseason last fall. Basically, it's a long shot that he will play this season.

A Song for Tonight: Loudness is a metal band from Japan that has been active since 1981. Their seventh studio album, Hurricane Eyes, came out in 1987 actually peaked at #190 on the US charts. Not bad given that the most popular form of metal always carried some kind of power ballad then. From Hurricane Eyes, this is "SDI" and it has a sweet guitar solo.

Please use this Gamethread to discuss what's going on in tonight's game between the Canes and the Devils. As always, please keep your comments clean, relevant, and legal. If you want to be negative; fine, but do be rational as nobody needs any nonsense from anyone. Go Devils!
