The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (7-5-1) vs. the Washington Capitals (9-4-0)

For the Veterans & Active Members of the U.S. Armed Forces: Thank you for your service.

The Previews: My preview of tonight’s game from much earlier this morning is right here.As for an opposition point of view, please check out Japers’ Rink.

A Song for Tonight: Given that it's Veteran's Day, I feel it's appropriate to make Iced Earth's "Greenface" tonight's song.

Gameday Info: Ilya Kovalchuk will not play tonight and tomorrow. Peter DeBoer said as much this morning, as reported by Tom Gulitti at Fire & Ice. I had a feeling that would be the case in my preview of the game. I’ll say here what I said there: I’m fine with this if only to prevent a more significant injury. In the big picture, 4 games off is not a big deal. Still, Kovalchuk will be missed in the lineup, and especially on the power play. The Devils called up Vladimir Zharkov today. He will be on the fourth line with Brad Mills and Cam Janssen, as confirmed in this post by Gulitti; Rod Pelley will be scratched.

As for the Capitals, both Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times and Katie Carrera of the Washington Post (at their blog Capitals Insider) reported that defenseman Mike Green is likely to play tonight. Both say a source told them this, which makes me wonder if they have the same source. The official word is that he’s a game-time decision. Carrera also reported in her post that Tomas Vokoun will start in net for the Capitals this evening; and Matt Hendricks is questionable to play tonight since his wife just had twins. Lastly, this different post by Carrera states that center Marcus Johansson is expected to start on the top line – which features Alexander Ovechkin - for the purposes of adding more speed. Great, Ovechkin with more speed on his line. That change would move Washington leading scorer Nicklas Backstrom to a different line, which could create match-up problems for the Devils. Good luck to the skaters and DeBoer. They'll need it.

As usual, you can use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. I'll chime in from time to time from the game itself both here and @InLouWeTrust. Please remember the rules at all times, namely: keep your comments clean, keep them on topic, and keep them legal (read: no illegal streams - no links, no discussion, no requests for one). Go Devils!
