New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins - Gamethread #27

The Time: 7:00 PM EST

The Broadcast: TV - MSG+(HD); Radio - 660 AM WFAN

The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (8-16-2) at the Pittsburgh Penguins (18-8-2)

The Previews: My preview from way earlier this morning is here. For the Penguins side, please visit Pensburgh for their eventual Gamethread.

The Retirement: Bill Guerin has officially announced his retirement from hockey today. The power forward started his career in New Jersey and has last played with Pittsburgh. Fitting given today's game. Tom Gulitti has the story at Fire & Ice. Over at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Seth Rorabaugh memorialized his time in Pittsburgh.

Gameday Info: The New Jersey Devils will have Martin Brodeur as the backup goaltender tonight and will dress seven defensemen, according to Tom Gulitti earlier today. Yes, Olivier Magnan-Grenier and Matthew Corrente will play, Stephen Gionta and Alexander Vasyunov will sit, and Ilya Kovalchuk could be double-shifted all game long. Oh boy. As for the Penguins, Evgeni Malkin is not playing according to the Associated Press via ESPN (hat-tip: acasser).

A Song for Tonight: Since the Devils are playing the Penguins, it's only appropriate to use a song from the math-rock legends who have called Pittsburgh home: Don Caballero. This is one my favorite songs from their seminal third album, What Burns Never Returns, it's "Slice Where You Live Like Pie." (I could have used "From the Desk of Elsewhere Go" given the near-dead-man-walking status of John MacLean, but I like this song better.)

Please use this Gamethread to discuss what's going on in this game. You can mention other NHL scores, but please keep the conversation mostly on the Devils and Penguins game tonight. As always, please keep your comments clean, relevant, and legal. If you want to be negative; fine, but do be rational as nobody needs any nonsense from anyone. Most importantly: Let's go, Devils.
