The Time: 10:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+(HD); Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (3-8-1) at the Vancouver Canucks (4-3-2)
The Previews: Sean Zandberg got this preview up at Nucks Misconduct, which (among other things) points out that both Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo have not been all that good against each other in their careers. Here is my preview from earlier today, which includes a wild guess at the Zach Parise-less Devils lineup and a bunch of other thoughts.
The Aside: Want more talk about the Devils problems? Well, I'm part of this roundtable post at From the Rink along with Steve Lepore of Puck the Media & SBN-NY; Chris Wassel of many places including The Hockey Program and the Newark Examiner; and Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy. Consider it a taste of what to expect for the October in Review dropping tomorrow at 11 AM.
Gameday Info: Rich Chere reported quite a bit from the Devils' morning skate. In that report, he has an update on what the lines could be to at least start tonight's game, notes new power play units (file under "Throw junk at a wall and hope it sticks"), and states the Devils will face Roberto Luongo in net tonight but not Ryan Parent on defense (out with a groin injury). So go read that first. Chere also reports that Tim Sestito will be playing on the wing tonight. According to the Vancouver Sun's Iain Macintyre, Keith Ballard will be in the lineup for the Canucks, coming off a concussion.
Speaking of injuries, Tom Gulitti reported earlier today that Jacob Josefson will be out 6-8 weeks to recover from surgery to repair a detached ligament in his thumb; and Zach Parise will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. More bad news for the Devils. It almost makes you want to scream, doesn't it?
An Appropriate Song: They aren't from Vancouver, but from Victoria. NoMeansNo's Tired of Waiting from their seminal album Wrong is particularly appropriate for the final late night game of the season for the east coast - and for wondering when those dang shots are going to go in at a rate better than 5.2%. (Not sure why the guy who uploaded this has close to 2 minutes of silence, but whatever. If you really need more, here's The Tower from the same album.)
Please use this Gamethread to discuss what's going on in tonight's game. It's OK to mention other NHL scores, but keep the conversation mostly on the Devils-Canucks game tonight. Matt's going to take care of the recap, so be good to him and thank him for agreeing to stay up for one more of these games. As always, please keep your comments clean, relevant, and legal. Most importantly: Let's Go Devils!
