The Time: 10:30 PM EDT (10:52 PM faceoff due to the honoring of former captain Mattias Norstrom)
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+(HD); Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Matchup: The New Jersey Devils (3-7-1) at the Los Angeles Kings (7-3-0)
The Previews: My preview from earlier this morning can be found here. For the opposition side, Rudy Kelly at Battle of California praises Mattias Norstrom in the open thread over there; and Quisp asks a bunch of questions at Jewels from the Crown.
Gameday Info: The Devils announced another player was called up from Albany: Brad Mills. Tom Gulitti noted that Tim Sestito didn't play at all in the third period on Friday, which may account for the call-up. Except that Sestito did tell Rich Chere he was fine today, so he may be replacing someone else. It'll become clear right before faceoff. To make the move, Anton Volchenkov was put on injured reserve retroactively to October 9. He's eligible to return when healthy and a roster spot is open. As for the Kings, Rich Hammond at LA Kings Insider reports that Wayne Simmonds is expected to play tonight. This should add some beef to the Kings' wingers. Hammond also noted that it's nearly time for management to decide to send rookies Kyle Clifford and Brayden Schenn back to juniors or keep them on the NHL roster for the season. Tonight will be their last game to make their case, so if you're looking for someone to come out of nowhere and play big, it could be those two.
Two Songs Appropriate for Tonight: If you want to get your thrash on, here's a fine crossover-thrash song from LA-based band Wasted Youth: Good Day for a Hanging. If you want something more Kings related and featuring two musical legends, here's Rainbow's Kill the King. Both are good tunes.
Please use this Gamethread to discuss what's going on in tonight's game. It's OK to mention other NHL scores, but keep the conversation mostly on the Devils-Kings game tonight. I'm going to attempt to do the recap after the game, so it may be a bit shorter and more mistake-laden than usual. The sun will still rise the next day. As always, please keep your comments clean, relevant, and legal. Most importantly: Let's Go Devils!
