NJ Devils & Atlantic Division Weekly Snapshot: 11/1 - 11/7

The New Jersey Devils won their seventh straight road win and thanks to a recent slide by the Rangers, they are now within striking distance of the New York Rangers for second in the division.  Also, don't look now, Philadelphia Flyers, but the New York Islanders are right there after a brilliant set of results last week - including a 5-0 win over Buffalo last night. And above it all, the Pittsburgh Penguins still lead the Atlantic and the league.

Good thing Philadelphia has games in hand, but in the short term, the Islanders can actually jump past the Flyers in the standings. Wouldn't that be something?  The Rangers need to turn it around and hope Pittsburgh falters a bit more without Sergei Gonchar and Evgeni Malkin to hope to get to first place; but they should be more worried about securing second with New Jersey being right behind him.

Lastly, as a new addition, here's a table of all the games for each team for this week.  The link in the team name will go to the SBN blog for that team where you can learn more about each team.  Except NJD because, well, you're already here.

Both New York teams get opportunities for extra points with an extra game each for the Rangers and the Islanders, and the Rangers have the advantage of getting games in before most of the rest of the division. There's only one intra-division game this week, the Devils will host the Islanders on Friday.  The Flyers will remain the "victim" of not having played as many games this week. Nonetheless, Saturday is going to be busy with all 5 teams in action.

Either way, Pittsburgh will still likely lead the division when it's all said and done.  If they get at least two points in their road trip, they're safe for another week as the division leaders.
