Devils @ WJC 2009: Day 3 Update

2

Link goes to the scores at the IIHF site. You may be wondering what happened to Day 2. No Devils played in those games. All three Devils prospects were in action for tonight's games. 1. Patrice Cormier - He picked up his first assist of the tournament, in Canada's destruction of Kazakhstan. I mean destruction, the game ended 15-0. Oof. Cormier is being used in a defensive/physical role and so I can't judge how he's doing based on numbers alone. However, Gulitti found this SLAM! article talking about how a Cormier hit energized Canada in their opening game against the Czechs. And that game ended 8-1. 2. Mike Hoeffel - He had two shots on goal, but no points or anything else on the statline in a 4-3 USA win over the Czechs. Like Cormier, Hoeffel is in a defensive role, so to judge him by numbers is folly. Of course, I can't see any of these games and I'm doing all this just to provide an update on what's going on. 3. Mattias Tedenby - Well, he definitely did something in Sweden's 3-1 win over Slovakia. He took a high sticking penalty and got 2 shots on net. Hopefully he'll be producing on Sweden's offense as the tourney goes on. Tomorrow against Latvia may be a good opportunity as any. Canada's dominance will likely continue tomorrow against Germany. Can anyone stop them? The USA on Wednesday may be the only true struggle for Canada. And even then that could get ugly!
